Investment app redesignNova Futura is a brokerage firm with over 40 years in the financial market, offering complete investment solutions with accessible technology and a personalized approach.
As a UI/UX Designer at Nova Futura, I took on the challenge of transforming a limited and outdated app into a modern, intuitive, and accessible experience — all while staying true to the brand identity and the needs of users investing in fixed income, mutual funds, and stocks.

Project overview

The previous app had several visual and technical issues. It was outdated, with limited features that led to frequent user complaints through support channels, negative reviews in app stores, and reports on consumer complaint platforms.Most common issues included:

“I can't complete my investment”
“I can't find information about my assets”
“My balance is incorrect”
“I don't know how to make transfers”

Benchmark process

User interview

We conducted research with around 20 users, including real clients and internal employees, in collaboration with a specialized agency. We then ran usability tests with 10 selected users who had previously reported major pain points. These sessions were essential to understand behavior during the investment process and identify key friction points.

Defined Goals

After the research, our main focus became streamlining the user journey — especially in critical flows like buying assets.
We introduced quick action shortcuts, redesigned high-dropoff screens, and stayed aligned with the brand's visual identity. The goal was to deliver a sophisticated and modern experience without compromising performance.

Problems and solutions

We created low- and high-fidelity prototypes and iterated based on feedback. Key improvements included:

Home screen redesign: previously filled with external links, it now features quick access to investments and product highlights.
Cockpit revamp: previously unclear, it now clearly shows available and used leverage limits.
Improved accessibility: updated the entire color palette to meet WCAG 2.2 and added dark mode for users with visual sensitivity.
Reusable components: improved hierarchy and created scalable UI patterns that enhanced consistency and efficiency.

Lessons learned

When I started this project, I was still a junior designer. I made mistakes, recreated components, and initially focused too much on UI over UX. But that helped me grow — a lot more than I expected.I significantly improved my handoff with developers, and we built tokens and components so well-designed that they were later reused in the client portal, white label platform, and institutional website.
Watching this evolution in real time has been one of the biggest highlights of my career.

Components libary

With a well-established brand identity, I worked closely with the marketing team to reuse and optimize elements from the brand book.
I also created a scalable mini design system — mapping all colors, buttons, icons, and inputs — which helped streamline the developer handoff and accelerated my own design process.
